Question : You are a professional golfer for over 15 years, can you tell us how you turned pro?
Patricia Meunier-Lebouc : I turned professional in 1994. During my first year I won the Open in England. The competition and performance have always been the fuel of my motivation. I won four other tournaments in the Ladies European Tour: the Irish Open in 1997, Air France Madame Open in 1998, the Open de France in 2000 and the Austrian Open in 2000. That same year I won the Solheim Cup with European teams (Europe-US match, equivalent of the Ryder Cup for men). I won again in 2003, my best professional season. My husband Antoine Lebouc, a former PGA European Tour player became my caddy and coach in 2000. We are a winning team!
In 2001 I qualified for the LPGA Tour (Tour American female) came to the United States to live our dream of reaching the highest level of professional golf. In 2002 I won my first LPGA tournament, the State Farm Classic in Illinois and six months later, a major tournament called the Kraft Nabisco Championship in Palm Springs, CA. In 2003 I gave birth to a baby girl, Phildine Pearl. In 2009
I stopped my career as a professional player. Antoine and I are dedicated to teaching and coaching golf. We continue to form a team and we work side by side at the Golf Hotel in West Palm Beach.
Q: You have participated in major international competitions and you created a name for yourself! What was your greatest victory?
Yes, indeed I have won seven tournaments, including five in Europe and two in the United States and two with Team Europe in the Solheim Cup in 2000 and 2003. (and we just won in Ireland where I was assistant to the Captain and it was magical!
My win in a major tournament, the Kraft Nabisco Championship in Palm Springs in 2003, is clearly my greatest victory.
I’m so far the only French professional among male and female players, to win a major tournament (since the victory of Catherine Lacoste, the US Open in 1967).
Q: Why have you decided to move to the U.S. and especially in Florida?
Investing myself 100% in the LPGA Tour in 2002, determined our choice to move to the United States. Florida is the state most suitable due to its climate and geographical location, closer to France. We also had our friends William and Caroline Raoux (former professional tennis player) who lived in Boca Raton. We simply followed their steps and those of many other athletes, because today there is a high concentration of professional golfers installed in the Palm Beach County.
Q: Is there a difference between the U.S. and golf courses as practiced in Europe?
From my point of view, the biggest difference between American Golf and golf practiced in Europe is the quality of maintenance of golf courses and facilities. This comes from a more family oriented practice (which focuses more on the sports and leisure side) much as in Europe; however, they are more business-oriented (more money available) in the United States.
Q: You organize as part of the "French Week 2011," a golf tournament. Can you describe it to us and release the sign up date?
Yes, my husband and I organize it, along with a team of French friends living in the region (Palm Beach County) golf tournament, "the French Cup Golf Week" as part of the French Week 2011. This is a tournament open to amateurs of all levels who wish to share with a partner, whether it be a man, a woman or a junior, a day of friendly competition on the theme of pleasure and conviviality. The purpose of this competition is to allow the French golf lovers in Florida, to meet for a day that will hopefully be the first of many golf traditions in the Franco-American South Florida.
We also have packages for sponsors who wish to be partners of the event and appear on in medium of communication of the French Week and French Week Golf Cup. They will have access to special services such as a clinic presented by Anthony and Patricia Meunier-Lebouc before the start of the competition …
